Positive Displacement Pumps
This category tends to be used where fluids & slurries need to be transferred to a highly predicable and reliable manner such as dosing or not blocking in the case of high viscosity fluids. Particular types include: Archimedean screw pump usually used for larger scale low head applications such as drainage or waste water treatment; diaphragm pumps for medical use to ensure no cross-contamination; mono type pumps (or progressive displacement pumps) used where a high suction head is required; piston pumps for high delivery head applications such as some fire pumps: pump, vane pumps lobe pumps used for metering at high volumes usually with a precisely controlled variable speed drive and peristaltic pumps used in doses small volume fragile (sheer-sensitive) fluid such as blood transfusions.
